Performances

Japanese street theater (Kamishibai) with Shunsuke Yamaguchi

12:30pm, Renaissance Court
Kamishibai was a form of Japanese street theater, popular from the 1930s through the post-war period. Stories were told by a kamishibaiya (“kamishibai narrator”), who travelled to street corners with illustrated boards that were placed in a stage-like creation. Pictures accompanied the stories, as with manga and anime. In this program, “Kamishibai Man”, Shunsuke Yamaguchi, tells two spring stories and then answers your questions.
