Photography Policy

Visitor Photography

Visitors are welcome to take photographs for personal, non-distributional, non-commercial purposes using hand-held cameras and phones without flash. For the safety of the art and other visitors, additional photography/videography equipment, props, and costumes are not permitted in the Museum. All visitors are expected to adhere to gallery guidelines.

Photoshoots, with or without a hired professional photographer, are not permitted in the Museum during open hours. Photoshoots are defined as photography for graduations, proms, engagement/bridal portraits, weddings, commercial or distributional purposes, or any other posed photo session. Photoshoots interfere with the experience of other visitors and can cause galleries and hallways to become inaccessible for the public. For more information regarding pre-scheduled photoshoots, see below.

When taking photographs in our galleries, you may be approached by Museum staff and asked about the nature of your photography or filming. The Museum reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph or film within the Museum.

Please note: There may be select exhibitions for which photography of any kind is not allowed. These exceptions are noted on each exhibition page.

Pre-Scheduled Photoshoots

Unauthorized photoshoots and staged photography, as defined above, are not permitted in the Museum.

Private photoshoots may be scheduled for an additional fee. To schedule a photoshoot, contact photoshoots@worcesterart.org. Additional photography/videography equipment may be used for these shoots with prior permission. Equipment or bags cannot be carried through the Museum.

Semi-private photoshoots may be scheduled on specific pre-approved evenings for an additional fee. These photoshoots are limited to one hour. Contact  photoshoots@worcesterart.org for more details and available dates. Reservations are first-come-first-served.

For Press

Members of the media who wish to photograph or film inside the Museum must be accompanied by a member of the Communications and Marketing Department. Additional photography/videography equipment must be approved prior to arrival. To schedule a press visit, please contact pr@worcesterart.org.

Published images of the Museum and its collections must be accompanied by appropriate credit lines. Site visits or pre-filming/photography meetings may be requested prior to approval.

Photography requests for non-editorial purposes (i.e. commercial use, academic reports, books, etc.) should be emailed to images@worcesterart.org.

Photography/Filming of Visitors

Visitors may be filmed or photographed by Museum employees or contracted photographers for archival, promotional, or press use. Admission serves as permission for the use of images of visitors by the Worcester Art Museum and its constituents. Visitors may request not to be photographed. Please contact communications@worcesterart.org if you would like your picture removed from one of the Museum’s online platforms.

The Museum asks that visitors be mindful of others and avoid photographing or filming other visitors without their expressed permission.
