“Each story and myth about Maria is a source of hope and strength as I paint.” Hilary Doyle’s current installation, on view May 14–November 9, 2025, explores the life of Maria Sibylla Merian (1647–1717). Merian—an artist, mother, and scientist—was a pioneering ecologist and one of the most significant early contributors to entomology, the study of insects. Join us for an artist talk with Doyle, where she will share how Merian’s story inspires her life and art today, as she explores issues of women’s autonomy, motherhood, and nature—and the potent intersections between them.
Advance registration is highly recommended. A limited number of walk-in tickets may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-in entry is not guaranteed if the event is sold out.
