    Free August 2018 at Worcester Art Museum

    Enjoy a whole month of art for FREE!

    Returning this summer are our ever popular games in the Court Yard. Get some fresh air and some light activity with our Corn Hole game or exercise your mind with our extra-large chess set. Activity subject to New England weather!

    Castle Siege Game and Castle Building Block activity (Wednesday through Sunday).

    If the sun is too much come in side Higgins Education Wing and play! Back by popular demand, our Castle Siege Game and Castle Building Blocks activity.


    Helmutt's Summer Vacation
    Have you met Helmutt? Helmutt is an armor-wearing board hound statue. This summer he'll be taking a vacation in the Museum visiting different works of art each week. See if you can find Helmutt each time you visit WAM! Look for clues on our Facebook page. #whereinwamishelmutt

    Drawing Center
    Salisbury Hall, 2nd Floor
    A young girl dressing up with armor Visit our drop-in drawing center, where you can sketch one of four Helmets, use coloring sheets, or just use your imagination.

    Art Carts
    Art Carts are interactive, hands-on activity centers. Touch materials, draw or build, and discover the world through art. Led by our fun and knowledgeable educators. These lively informal gallery get-togethers are for all ages. Ask our friendly docents what activity will be on tap today! (Programming subject to change)

    Curator Tour
    Thursday August 16
    Join us for an enlightening tour led by Erin Corrales-Diaz our WAM Assistant Curator of American Art. This 45-minute tour will focus on our special exhibition “Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany and La Farge.”

    Arms & Armor Demonstrations
    Join us for this fun interactive program, and learn all about different kinds of arms and armor used by knights and soldiers, including Roman soldiers, Medieval knights and beyond! Free with museum admission. Events held in the Museum Conference Room. Schedule subject to change; please check our Events Calendar for up-to-date information.

    The Company of the Wolfe Argent — Representing a company of 15th century Burgundian men-at-arms, this group employs period clothing and weaponry to offer a lively glimpse of arms and armor, society, and daily life in the late Middle Ages. www.wolfeargent.com

    Wednesdays, August 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29
    The Knight's Tale — The Knight in shining armor conjures a thousand images and captures the imagination. What were the strengths of armor? What were its weaknesses? Learn about all the different kinds of arms and armor that were used by knights and soldiers of the past in this interactive program.

    Tour of the Month: VTS: Looking at Art in a New Way
    Saturdays, August 4 and 18
    2pm – 3pm
    Look at art in an exciting, engaging approach through VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies). This lively tour explores seeing art in a new way. Share your observations with a Museum docent as your guide. Tour begins in the Lancaster Welcome Center.

    Family Tour
    Saturday, August 4, 11, 18, & 25
    10:30am – 11am
    Explore the Museum galleries with your family in a docent-guided discovery tour. Hear fun facts, stories, and enjoy sharing observations and time together. Tours last approximately 30 minutes.

    It's never too early to visit the Worcester Art Museum to start learning about art! This tour is designed for children 0 – 3 years old, their siblings, and their parents/ grandparents/ guardians. A Museum teacher will engage caretakers and their infants and toddlers with art and stories in the galleries. Stay for juice and snacks after your tour. Free with Museum admission. Stroller access to Lancaster Lobby is through our Tuckerman Street Entrance.

    Sunday Public Tour
    Sundays, 1pm
    Join one of our talented docents for an overview of the Museum's collection.

    Zip Tours
    Saturdays, 1pm; 20-minute, fast-paced views of one artist, artwork, or theme.
