Worcester Art Museum Debuts Spanish-Language Audio Tour
(WORCESTER, Mass., August 14, 2003) -The Worcester Art Museum's audio tour, highlighting masterworks of the Museum's collection, is now offered in Spanish as well as English.
Translation of the tour was a project spearheaded by the Museum's Diversity Committee, comprised of trustees, corporators and community liaisons. Audio Journal, the radio reading service for Central Massachusetts, provided recording assistance for the project.
This effort to introduce Spanish-speaking people to the Worcester Art Museum is a great step toward making the Museum more welcoming to people of all cultures, said Diversity Committee Chairwoman Antonella Doucette.
The tour interprets 15 works of art that demonstrate the quality and breadth of the Worcester Art Museum's collection. Selected works span five millennia and many world cultures, including an Egyptian relief carving, Roman mosaics, an Indian deity sculpture, a medieval priory room, an Italian Renaissance painting, early American portraits, and a work of Abstract Expressionism. The tour begins with an introduction by Museum Director James A. Welu.
Museum visitors may rent the tour, in Spanish or English, on portable CD players for $1 at the Lancaster and Salisbury street entrances. Printed translations of the tour are available free of charge for the hearing impaired.
