  • ‘Wintershops’ at Worcester Art Museum Spark Kids’ Creative Flair

(WORCESTER, Mass., October 20, 2004) - The Worcester Art Museum offers a great outlet for parents who are looking to keep kids active and entertained over the winter school break. Morning and afternoon “wintershops” on Dec. 28, 29, and 30 expose children ages 5-12 to painting, mixed media, and sculpture in a fun and safe environment.

All workshops include a tour that introduces students to the various artworks in the Museum, from the Medieval chapter house to modern paintings. The children then go into the studios to create their own masterpieces.

    Children can discover:

    Cityscapes & Skyscrapers
Create a fantastic mixed media city with your leftover gift boxes after finding architectural inspiration around the Museum.

    Last Hurrah - Hats!
Look for images of hats in the Museum galleries and then prepare for New Year's Eve by making a festive party hat!

    Make it Modern!
Explore colors, shapes, lines, and textures in the Museum's galleries and then return to the studio to create your own painting inspired by modern art.

Families can explore the Museum's many galleries outside of class, too. Before leaving, be sure to visit Photography at the Worcester Art Museum: Keeping Shadows, a special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Museum's first photography show. The vast collection of photographs in this exhibition traces the history of photography from mid-19th-century daguerreotypes to digital images from NASA space probes.

Pre-registration for workshops is required. Workshops are $18 for nonmembers, and $16 for members. Make a day of it with two workshops and a supervised lunch. For information, call (508) 799-4406 ext. 3007, or browse class listings and register online.
