Modernism and Abstraction: Treasures from the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art
Installation view of Art of the Machine Age, Worcester Art Museum, May 15-October 18, 1936. This exhibition included works by local manufacturers that were both beautiful and functional, and it thereby demonstrated the interplay between the fine and applied arts. In turn, paintings and sculpture in Modernism and Abstraction by Irene Rice Pereira, Theodore Roszak, Joseph Stella, and George L.K. Morris exemplify the impact that the Machine Age had on the fine arts.
