2:00 PM-3:00 PM
Through intellectual leadership, philanthropy, and industrial investment, Stephen Salisbury II (1798-1886) and III (1835-1905) profoundly shaped the community in which they lived. The dynasty began with Stephen I (1746-1829), a Boston transplant who arrived in Worcester in 1767 to open a branch of the family’s mercantile business. In 1797, he married Boston native Elizabeth Tuckerman (1768-1851), who in her own right helped shape her adoptive town. In this special partnership, tour both the galleries of Worcester Art Museum and Salisbury Mansion, owned and operated by Worcester Historical Museum, for an in-depth look at the art, style, and lives of one of Worcester’s influential families.
The tour is free at both institutions. Tour begins in the Lancaster Street Lobby of the Worcester Art Museum. Tour size is limited to 20; portions of Salisbury Mansion are not handicap-accessible. Tour repeats on July 20, August 21, and August 24.
