Susan Stoops (Curator of Contemporary Art) will lead a discussion in the contemporary gallery about the exhibition currently on view, Nancy Spero: Cri du Coeur. During her six-decade career, Spero (1926-2009) employed a vast and consistent vocabulary of images collected from various histories and mythologies, focusing nearly exclusively on those depicting womens experiences, often their resilience in the face of oppression and violence. Made in 2005, Cri du Coeur is Spero's last monumental work on paper. It has been described as a passionate cry against war, death, and destruction that is political and personal, social and metaphysical.
