2. Mrs. Charles Willing (Rebecca Tillinghast) loaned the painting to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for its Loan Exhibition of Historical Portraits, December 1, 1887–January 15, 1888; at the time, the portrait was attributed to Benjamin West.

3. Will of Rebecca Tillinghast Willing, will no. 1017, 1889, Philadelphia City Hall. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Willing had no children.
