Painting in Greece with Nan Hass Feldman
Sponsored by the Worcester Art Museum with the Island Center for the Arts in Skopelos, Greece
Join Nan Hass Feldman on a painting trip to the beautiful Greek island of Skopelos. If you have ever wanted the opportunity to immerse yourself in your art while exploring another culture, don't miss this trip.
Once on the island, you will paint along the shores of the Aegean and in the charming village of Skopelos, with its cobblestone lanes, colorful wooden balconies and lush gardens scented with lemon trees and jasmine. A day will be spent at the fabulous chapel of Aghios Ioannis, the setting for Sophie's wedding in the film "Mamma Mia." Instruction will focus on gaining confidence in painting and drawing on-site, experimenting with different mediums and styles, and loosening up to capture your experiences with skill and ease. Mornings will be spent learning principles of landscape painting, set-up, stages of a painting, and color theory. Works may be completed on-site or in the studio at a later date. Afternoons are free to explore and develop your own work. Individual and group critiques will round out each day. Work in your favorite medium and/or a medium you would like to learn.
Nan will demonstrate charcoal, acrylics, water-based oils, pigment sticks, pastels, mixed-mediums and watercolor, encouraging you to use a variety of styles and mediums. Course instruction will involve lectures, demos, one-on-one time with Nan and group critiques. Cultural workshops will introduce you to the history, mythology and traditions of Greece - and an evening of Greek music and dancing! The class will both begin and conclude with visits to Athens, highlighted by tours of the Acropolis and the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. We'll dine in lively tavernas and explore the quaint streets of this legendary city.
