Painting in Italy with JoEllen Reinhardt
Sponsored by the Worcester Art Museum with Toscana Americana in Cortona, Italy
Travel in the footsteps of great Italian artists as you paint and draw in Tuscany and Umbria under the instruction of artist JoEllen Reinhardt. JoEllen's classical art education is strongly rooted in the techniques of the Florence Academy. Using traditional instructional methods and demonstrations, JoEllen will guide you as you paint and draw the Tuscan sites en plein air. Working in your favorite medium and at your own level, you'll have ample opportunity to paint in both morning and afternoon sessions.
Bring out your creativity with inspirational subject matter: village stucco houses with terracotta roofs as well as vistas of distant mountains, covered with cypress trees, olive groves and vineyards. Our excursions will take us to many picturesque sites including the hill town of Assisi and the small fishing village of Isola Maggiore, located on Lake Trasimeno. After pleasant days spent painting and drawing, you'll relax and enjoy the sumptuous food, wine and culture of the Tuscan region. Our last evening will be spent in Florence, where we'll visit the Uffizi Gallery, home to many great masterpieces, including Botticelli's painting Birth of Venus.
Cortona, one of the true jewels of the Tuscan hill towns, will be our home-away-from-home. Often called the "City of Art," Cortona has its origin as an Etruscan city that pre-dates Roman times, with sections of its walls dating back 2,500 years. Cortona's stone buildings and streets have the romance, style, and charm that are particular to Tuscany and speak of the lives and times Cortona has witnessed. An encounter with Cortona is an encounter with music and art, history and spirituality. Cortona offers testimony to its history as well as an enchanting view of the landscape enclosed by Lake Trasimeno and the Apennine mountains.
