Explorations of Shibori Dyeing
The idea is that the more tools you use in manipulating your fabric, the greater variety you'll get when your fabric is dyed. I will bring my stash of rope, pipe, clamps, etc. but that will mean sharing, so the more you bring from home, the more assured you are of having enough for your fabric. If you are already set up for dyeing and can bring cups and five gallon pails, that's great. If you aren't, don't go out and buy pails just for the class. And definitely don't bring pails that have been used in the garden.
Please bring:
1. Long rubber gloves (up to near the elbow)
2. Dust mask for fine dust
3. Rubber bands
4. String and scissors
5. Needles and thread (you may want to bring both lightweight thread and embroidery floss, color doesn't matter.)
6. Permanent fine tip marker
7. Sheet of plastic (dry cleaning bags are perfect, one or two will do)
8. One or two 3 foot lengths of rope, different weaves will produce different results
9. One or two 3 foot lengths of PVC pipe that is 1", 2", or 4" in diameter.
10. Chopsticks
11. Spring clamps
12. Metal washers in a variety of sizes
13. Clothes pins
14. Anything else that you can clamp onto the fabric to make interesting dyed designs
Please make sure to wear clothes that you won't mind getting stained by errant splashes of dye.
