Asian Art
Japanese Edo-period (1600-1868) painting, calligraphy and prints are the strength of Worcester's Asian collection. Its holdings include outstanding examples of Chinese painting, ceramics, bronzes, and Buddhist sculpture. Ceramics and calligraphy represent Korean art, a new collecting area for the Museum. The Indian and Southeast Asian collections consist primarily of Hindu and Buddhist monumental sculpture, Indian miniature painting of all schools, Indian decorative objects; and Thai and Vietnamese ceramics. Painting, textiles (including rugs), ceramics and some metalwork represent the art of Islam.
